Convex Half-Round Router Bit R3 – R60 mm | Concave Groove on Wood – HSS M2 / HW (K40)

Professional router bit with bore and convex profile (outwardly curved) — used for carving a concave groove on wood: decorative grooves, functional channels, carved handles, or classic architectural elements. Often used with a concave (rounding) router bit for alternating decorative bead-and-channel profiles. Available in a wide range of radii, from R3 to R60 mm, and in HSS M2 and HW (K40) variants — select material, radius, and bore from the menu.

Profile ProfileConvex router bit (outwardly curved) – produces an inwardly carved concave groove on wood

🔧 MAIN FEATURES:

  • Precise Concave Groove: the convex profile of the router bit carves a uniform and aesthetic groove on wood, across the entire R3–R60 mm radius range.
  • Durable Cutting Edges: 4 brazed teeth made of HSS M2 or HW (K40), resistant to intensive use.
  • HW (K40) for Composites: carbide inserts resist the abrasive wear of synthetic binders in MDF, particle board, and HDF, where HSS would wear prematurely.
  • Ideal Pair with Concave Router Bit: combined with the rounding (concave) router bit, it allows for alternating decorative bead-and-channel profiles, typical for frames and classic architectural elements.
  • Body with Oxidized Finish: black oxidation (bluing) treatment provides additional corrosion protection, in addition to the characteristic matte black appearance.
  • Long-Term Investment: inserts can be successively resharpened at a specialized center (to maintain the rake angle), and with advanced wear, the router bit body can be re-brazed with new inserts.
  • Compatible with Classic Spindle Moulders and 4-Sided Planers: mounts on both classic spindle moulders and 4-sided planers.
  • Custom Radius on Request: if your project requires a specific radius outside the standard range, you can contact us with your project's technical drawing.

⚠️ USAGE LIMITATIONS:

  • HSS M2 Variant: ❌ NOT recommended for use on particle board, MDF, HDF, or very hard exotic wood. For these materials, select the HW (K40) variant.
  • HW (K40) Variant on Softwood: requires constant feed – stalling in rotation on resinous woods can cause local burns.

🛠️ Selection Guide: HSS M2 vs. HW (K40)

Choosing the correct cutting edge material directly influences the finish quality and tool lifespan:

Material Processed HSS M2 ⭐
(6.5% Tungsten) HW (K40) ⭐
(Tungsten Carbide)
Softwood
(Spruce, Pine, Fir) ⭐ 100%
(Flawless Finish) ❌ Risk of burning
(High friction)
Hardwood
(Beech, Oak, Ash) 80%
(Efficient) ⭐ 100%
(Maximum resistance)
MDF / Particle Board / HDF / Laminated Not recommended ⭐ 100%
(Optimal)
Number of Resharpenings Maximum (M2) Limited (3 mm)
Cutting Edge Material Hardness 63 – 65 HRC 85 – 92 HRC

✅ Purchase Conclusions:

  1. HSS M2 – for solid wood: ideal for soft and hardwoods, a cutting edge that sharpens more finely, leaving the concave groove perfectly smooth directly from the machine.
  2. HW (K40) – for composites and intensive production: mandatory for MDF, particle board, HDF, or abrasive exotic/composite woods, where it lasts much longer than HSS without resharpening.
  3. Simple Configuration: select the Material (HSS M2 / HW (K40)), the Radius (R3–R60) suitable for your project, and the Spindle Bore according to the flange of the machinery used in your workshop.

🦺 SAFETY MEASURES DURING USE:

  • Mandatory protective equipment: safety glasses (against projected chips), mask or respirator filter (fine wood dust), and earmuffs for prolonged work.
  • Attention to hands and fingers: maintain a safe distance from the cutting area and use feed/push devices where possible; do not manually intervene near the moving router bit.
  • Check the secure fastening of the router bit and spacer rings on the spindle before starting the machine.
  • Observe the recommended speed indicated for each router bit to avoid vibrations or the risk of cutting edge breakage.
