Lamellar Edge Joint Cutter – Brazed DS Steel | DIY Series
Bore-type cutter with a heat-treated, black-oxide-finished steel body, brazed with DS Steel tips (standard woodworking steel), designed for making lamellar edge joints between boards or solid wood panels. The teeth cover the entire working face, without a shoulder, for a continuous conical lamellar profile that increases the glue contact surface, ensuring uniform bonding and superior mechanical fixing. An economical option for small workshops and small-batch production in softwood.

✨ FEATURES AND PERFORMANCE (DIY SERIES):
-
Precise, Strong Joints: the continuous conical lamellar profile, with teeth across the entire working face, increases the glue contact surface, ensuring uniform bonding and superior mechanical fixing.
-
Economical, Efficient Solution: DS Steel is the rational choice for small workshops, small-batch production or joinery work that needs a reliable tool without high purchase costs.
-
Precision from 10 mm Thickness: the 2.5 mm deep teeth allow complementary profiles to be cut even on thin workpieces.
-
Balance and Consistent Performance: the 100 mm outer diameter and recommended speed of 6,000 RPM ensure stable operation with reduced vibration.
-
Workshop Versatility: compatible with a wide range of professional spindle moulders used for solid wood panel processing and traditional furniture production.
💡 TECHNICAL SET-UP RECOMMENDATION:
For a perfect counter-profile: to get the final joint of the two pieces perfectly flush (no steps or unevenness on the surface), lower or raise the cutter on the spindle by exactly half a tooth before cutting the complementary piece.
⚠️ USAGE LIMITATIONS (DS STEEL – DIY SERIES):
-
❌ NOT recommended for particleboard, MDF, HDF or exotic wood! Intended exclusively for natural softwood (conifers, lime, etc.).
- For industrial volumes or hardwood, choose the higher-grade HSS M2 or HW (K40) variants.
-
Ideal for: joinery workshops, solid wood furniture and softwood-based projects.
📊 COMPATIBILITY BY MATERIAL TYPE (DS STEEL)
Softwood (Fir, Spruce, Pine, Lime)
90%
Good / economical: solid results on conifers, the ideal low-cost option.
Hardwood (Beech, Oak, Ash)
40%
Poor: the tips dull quickly on hardwoods – we recommend HSS M2 or HW (K40) for this case.
Particleboard / MDF / HDF / Composite
Not recommended
Synthetic binders wear the DS Steel tips prematurely.
💡 Conclusion: working standard fir or spruce structures? The DS Steel DIY Series variant is the perfect choice cost-wise. For hardwoods or large industrial volumes, higher-grade HSS M2 and HW (K40) variants are available in our catalogue.
🦺 SAFETY MEASURES:
-
Mandatory protective equipment: safety glasses (flying chips), a respirator mask or filter (fine wood dust) and hearing protection for extended work.
-
Mind your hands and fingers: use push sticks and guides when machining workpieces; never guide the workpiece by hand close to the cutter.
-
Check the mounting of the cutter and reducing bushes on the spindle, and that the nut is fully tightened before starting.
-
Observe the recommended speed (6,000 RPM) to avoid vibration or damage to the tips.
-
Do not force the feed on hardwoods — DS Steel tips dull quickly under excessive pressure; reduce the feed rate or switch to another material variant.
