Longitudinal Finger Joint Cutter for End Grain – DS Steel or HSS M2 | 50–130 mm

Bore-type cutter for making longitudinal finger joints on the ends of solid wood elements. The profile increases the contact surface for the adhesive, creating a strong and perfectly flat mechanical bond. Available in DS Steel and HSS M2 versions, with working thicknesses from 50 mm to 130 mm — select the material and size from the menu.

✨ FEATURES AND PERFORMANCE:

  • Edge-to-Edge and End Grain Joints: the longitudinal finger joint profile considerably increases the contact surface for the adhesive, creating a strong and perfectly flat mechanical bond.
  • Teeth Across the Entire Active Surface: the continuous configuration allows precise machining of complementary profiles on thin pieces, from ~10 mm up to the maximum thickness of the chosen version.
  • Full Size Range (50–130 mm): select exactly the working thickness your project needs, without compromises or extra adjustments.
  • 2 Materials, 2 Investment Levels: DS Steel for low cost on softwood, HSS M2 for a superior finish and longer service life.
  • Bore with Bushings Included: Ø32 mm standard, with Ø30 mm reduction bushings included — immediately compatible with both spindle sizes.
  • Long-Term Investment: the inserts can be resharpened repeatedly; when heavily worn, the cutter body can be re-brazed.

⚠️ USAGE LIMITATIONS:

  • DS Steel version: ❌ NOT recommended for chipboard, MDF, HDF or very dense exotic wood — intended exclusively for natural softwood.
  • HSS M2 version: ❌ NOT recommended for chipboard, MDF, HDF or very hard exotic wood — the synthetic binder prematurely wears the high-speed steel edge.
  • For composite materials or large industrial volumes: contact us for the equivalent HW (K40) version made to order.

🛠️ SELECTION GUIDE: DS STEEL vs. HSS M2

The right material choice directly affects finish quality, cost and tool life (swipe left-right on mobile to see the full table):

Cutting Edge Hardness 58 – 61 HRC 63 – 65 HRC
✅ Practical buying conclusions:
  1. Working standard structures in Fir, Spruce or Pine on a tight budget? The DS Steel version is the smart choice — excellent profiling for joining softwood elements, with a quick return on investment.
  2. High workload or harder species? The HSS M2 version gives a superior finish and more resharpenings, being more wear-resistant.
  3. Need to mill board materials (MDF/chipboard)? Neither version is recommended — contact us for the HW (K40) version made to order.

🦺 SAFETY MEASURES:

  • Mandatory protective equipment: safety glasses, dust mask or respirator (fine wood dust) and hearing protection for prolonged work.
  • Check the mounting of the cutter and bushings on the spindle, and that the nut is fully tightened before starting.
  • Observe the recommended speed of 6,200 RPM to avoid vibration or damage to the cutting edge.
  • Do not force the feed on hardwoods — especially with the DS Steel version, the inserts dull quickly under excessive pressure.
  • Resharpening: we recommend a specialised service centre to preserve the original profile geometry.
