Wood Panel Shaper Cutter – DS Steel, HSS M2 or T.C.T. Carbide | D160 / D200
Profiled shaper cutter with bore, for producing panels on a stationary spindle moulder, available in two diameters (160 mm and 200 mm), three material options (DS Steel, HSS M2, or T.C.T. Carbide) and two working positions (above or below the wood) — all selectable from the menu. Commonly used for producing solid wood doors, panel furniture, and decorative wood elements.

🚀 PROPERTIES AND PERFORMANCE:
- Robust and Balanced Body: made of heat-treated steel, the cutter body eliminates vibration, protecting the machine's bearings and ensuring flat finishes.
- Fine, Precise Cut: regardless of the material chosen, the brazed tips deliver a consistent cut and a finish ready straight off the cutter for staining or varnishing.
- Z4 Configuration: the 4 tips distribute the cutting load evenly, without tear-out.
- 3 Investment Levels: DS Steel for low cost on softwood, HSS M2 for a performance-price balance, T.C.T. Carbide for industrial volume and abrasive materials.
- Long-Term Investment: tips can be resharpened repeatedly at a specialized center, and at advanced wear the cutter body can be re-brazed.
- Maximum Flexibility: 2 diameters × 3 materials × 2 working positions — select the exact combination for your machine and project.
💡 HOW TO CHOOSE THE WORKING POSITION:
– Above the wood – you can visually check the profile while cutting; recommended for manual work with controlled feed from above.
– Below the wood – shavings and chips are thrown straight down; the workpiece finish stays protected while sliding on the shaper table.
⚠️ USAGE LIMITATIONS:
- DS Steel variant: ❌ NOT recommended on particleboard, MDF, HDF, or hard/exotic wood — intended exclusively for softwood (softwood species, linden).
- HSS M2 variant: ❌ not recommended on particleboard, MDF, HDF, or very hard exotic wood — synthetic binders wear out the high-speed steel edge prematurely.
- T.C.T. Carbide variant on softwood: requires a constant feed rate — letting the tool idle in contact with resinous species can cause local burning.
🛠️ SELECTION GUIDE: DS STEEL vs. HSS M2 vs. T.C.T. CARBIDE
Choosing the right material directly affects finish quality, cost, and tool life (scroll left-right on mobile to see the full table):

💡 Purchase recommendations:
- Tight budget, softwood only? Choose DS Steel – the lowest cost option for spruce, fir, or pine.
- Working with spruce, fir, or pine at medium volume? Choose HSS M2 – spotless white finish, no burn marks, more durable than DS.
- Working with oak, beech, MDF, or particleboard? Choose T.C.T. Carbide – resists the abrasive wear of hardwoods and synthetic binders.
🦺 SAFETY MEASURES:
- Mandatory protective equipment: safety glasses (against flying chips), a respirator mask (fine wood dust), and hearing protection for extended use.
- Watch your hands and fingers: always use a push/feed device; never guide the workpiece by hand near the moving cutter.
- Check the cutter orientation before starting the machine — the "Above" and "Below" variants are not interchangeable; incorrect mounting produces an incorrect profile.
- Check the mounting of the cutter on the shaft and the full tightness of the nut before starting.
- Follow the recommended speed of 6,000 RPM.
