Collection: Convex & Concave Radius Cutters

Convex, Concave, and Chamfering Profile Cutters for Wood – with Bore

The SolGrat range of profile cutters with bore for wood covers all essential round and chamfered profiles for carpentry workshops – from simply rounding a furniture edge, to curved jointing of tub staves or decorative chamfers made with chamfering and rounding cutters. The tools are designed for spindle moulders and four-sided planers, and are available with HSS M2 Premium and T.C.T. Vidia cutting edges, depending on the material being processed.

Types of Profiles Available in the Collection

  • Quarter Round Cutters (Convex and Concave): for rounding edges on countertops, stairs, or furniture elements, eliminating sharp angles and protecting wood fibers from splintering.
  • Convex Semicircle Cutters (Hollowing / Grooving Cutters): for decorative curved grooves and ample rounding, from R3 to R60 mm, on furniture, frames, or panels.
  • Concave Semicircle Cutters (Half Round): for deep round grooves or recessed handles directly in the wood piece's structure.
  • Cutters for Hot Tub and Barrel Staves: complementary concave-convex profile, calculated at an exact angle, for a watertight joint of solid wood staves in hot tubs, bathtubs, or barrels.
  • Chamfering and Rounding Cutters (coming soon): for chamfers and edge rounding with variable angles, frequently used in finishing furniture pieces, stairs, and frames.

Cutting Edge Materials: HSS M2 vs. T.C.T. Vidia

All cutters in the collection are brazed – the cutting edge is permanently attached to the tool body with silver alloy (Ag) and can be successively resharpened at a specialized center, without needing to replace the entire cutter:

  • HSS M2 Premium (high-speed steel, 6.5% Tungsten): recommended for soft solid wood (spruce, fir, pine), where it provides a clean cut, without pulled fibers and without risk of friction burns. Available across the entire range of profiles.
  • T.C.T. Vidia (carbide): recommended for hardwoods (oak, beech, ash) and wood-based panels (MDF, chipboard, HDF, laminated), due to its high resistance to abrasive wear. Available on selected ranges – check the variant for each product.

Recommended Workshop Applications

  • Furniture and fine carpentry: rounding and chamfering edges on countertops, cabinet fronts, chair or table legs, frames, and decorative elements.
  • Curved stave constructions: hot tubs for saunas and spas, barrels, bathtubs, rounded furniture, and solid wood boats.
  • Decorative and finishing profiles: hollowing, ornamental grooves, edge chamfers with variable angles and radii.
  • Custom execution: for an atypical radius (R) or a specific profile combination, you can contact us with your project's sketch or technical drawing.
