Shank End Mill for Grooving – T.C.T. Vidia | D6 mm | Lc18 mm | Z2

Solid carbide shank end mill T.C.T. (Vidia), with two cutting edges (Z2), designed for creating narrow grooves with a superior finish compared to Z1 variants. The two active cutting edges share the cutting load, reducing vibrations and ensuring a smooth groove bottom. Available with a shank of Ø6 mm or Ø8 mm – select the variant from the menu.

✨ ADVANTAGES OF Z2 CONFIGURATION:

  • Superior Finish vs. Z1: The two cutting edges share the cutting load, resulting in a much finer groove surface – minimal or no subsequent sanding required.
  • Balance and Stability: The symmetrical distribution of the two cutting edges reduces vibrations during operation, protecting machine bearings and ensuring a straight groove.
  • More Consistent Feed: Z2 allows for a more uniform feed in dense materials compared to Z1, reducing the risk of irregular cuts.
  • T.C.T. Vidia: High resistance to abrasive wear, including on MDF, chipboard, and hardwoods, with extended lifespan.
  • 18 mm Working Depth: Greater than standard D6mm variants, allowing for deeper grooves with fewer passes.

⚠️ Important recommendation: create deep grooves in successive passes of 4–6 mm with moderate feed. This prevents overheating and ensures an impeccable finish across the entire working depth.

⚠️ LIMITATIONS IN USE:

  • Do not force the feed: at D6 mm, excessive lateral pressure can break the milling body – adhere to successive passes and moderate feed.
  • Vidia on soft wood: requires constant feed – stopping rotation on resinous woods (spruce, fir) can cause local burn marks due to friction.
  • S6 mm variant: with a 6 mm shank equal to the cutting diameter, ensure that the collet grip is complete and firm – lateral rigidity is lower than the S8 mm variant.

📊 COMPATIBILITY GRADE PER MATERIAL TYPE (T.C.T. VIDIA)

MDF / Chipboard / HDF / Plywood 100%
Optimal: clean cutting without chipping edges, resists wear from synthetic binder.
Hardwood (Beech, Oak, Ash) 100%
Excellent: smooth finish, extended lifespan compared to high-speed steel.
Softwood (Spruce, Fir, Pine) 80%
Good: works, but requires constant feed to avoid friction burns.
Composite & Exotic Materials 100%
Maximum: the recommended choice for demanding and abrasive materials.

🦺 SAFETY MEASURES DURING USE:

  • Mandatory protective equipment: safety glasses (chips projected at high speed), mask or respirator filter (fine MDF/wood dust), and earmuffs.
  • Successive passes: do not achieve the full 18 mm depth in a single pass – work in 4–6 mm passes to prevent cutter breakage and overheating.
  • Check collet grip: fully insert the shank and firmly tighten the collet before starting – a loosely gripped cutter will vibrate and can come out of the collet during operation.
  • Attention to S6 mm variant: a shank equal to the cutting diameter offers less rigidity – work with a slower feed rate than with the S8 mm variant.
  • Securely clamp the workpiece before milling – any uncontrolled movement of the workpiece at D6 mm can break the cutter.
  • Maintain a constant feed and do not let the cutter stand still in rotation on the same spot.
