Concave Quarter Round Router Bit with Top Radius – HSS Premium | Wood Machining from Above

Professional bore router bit, for rounding wood edges with a concave quarter-round profile, Top Radius configuration (machining from above the workpiece) — a positioning that offers excellent visibility of the cutting line when working manually on classic routing machines. Available in a wide range of radii, from R3 to R60 mm, covering everything from fine decorative rounding to large profiles for posts, rustic furniture, or beams. Available in HSS M2 Premium and T.C.T. Carbide variants — select material, radius, and bore from the menu.

🚀 DYNAMIC PROPERTIES AND PERFORMANCE:

  • Optimal Top Radius Configuration: specifically designed for attacking and machining workpieces from above (right-hand operation) — a positioning that allows excellent visibility of the cutting line when working manually on classic routing machines.
  • Full Range of Profiles (R3–R60): total production flexibility, from fine decorative R3 roundings to large and massive R60 profiles, used for posts, rustic furniture elements, or beams. Complete geometric details can be found in the technical drawing of each piece.
  • Balanced HSS M2 Alloy (6.5% Tungsten): the sharp edge cuts the soft fibers of natural wood (spruce, fir, pine) cleanly, without tearing them and eliminating the risk of burn marks on the finished profile.
  • T.C.T. Carbide for Composites: metallic carbide inserts resist the abrasive wear of synthetic binders in MDF, particleboard, and HDF, where HSS would wear prematurely.
  • Anti-Shock Structural System: profiled inserts are industrially brazed with silver alloy (Ag), which acts as a cinematic shock absorber, dispersing vibrations during chipping and protecting the machine's bearings.
  • Repeated Resharpening Guarantee: the constant geometry of the concave profile allows for multiple resharpenings directly on the face of the insert, without deforming the tool's radius.
  • Custom Radius on Request: if your project requires a specific radius, outside the standard R3–R60 range, you can contact us with the technical drawing of your project.

📊 COMPATIBILITY RATING BY MATERIAL TYPE (HSS M2)

Softwood (Fir, Spruce, Pine, Linden) 100%
Excellent: clean cut, no burns, uniform finish.
Hardwood (Beech, Oak, Ash) 75%
Good: solid results, but cutting edge wear is faster than on softwoods.
Particleboard / MDF / HDF / Laminate Not Recommended
The synthetic binder in these materials prematurely wears out the HSS cutting edge.

💡 For constant processing of hardwoods or particleboard/MDF/HDF panels, an equivalent variant with T.C.T. Carbide inserts is also available, which is much more resistant to the abrasive wear of these materials.

⚠️ LIMITATIONS IN USE:

  • HSS M2 variant: ❌ NOT recommended for use on particleboard, MDF, HDF, or panels with synthetic adhesives! For these materials, choose the T.C.T. Carbide variant.
  • Carbide variant on soft wood: requires constant feed – stalling in rotation on resinous woods can cause localized burning.
  • Resharpening: we recommend having it done at a specialized center to maintain the original cutting angle of the edge – incorrect resharpening can reduce cutting efficiency.

🛠️ Selection Guide: HSS M2 vs. T.C.T. Carbide

✅ Conclusions for purchase:

  1. HSS M2 – for solid wood: ideal for soft and hardwoods, a cutting edge that sharpens more finely, leaving a perfectly smooth quarter-round directly from the machine, without the risk of micro-burns that Carbide can leave due to thermal friction on soft wood.
  2. T.C.T. Carbide – for composites and intensive production: mandatory for MDF, particleboard, HDF, or abrasive exotic/composite materials, where it lasts much longer than HSS without resharpening.
  3. Check Geometric Dimensions: each selected radius has its own technical drawing in the image gallery. Analyze the total diameter (D) and spindle dimension before placing your order.
  4. Simple Configuration: choose the Material (HSS/Carbide), Radius (R3–R60) suitable for your project, and Spindle Bore according to the flange of the machine used in your workshop from the selector.
