Set of 2 Conical Tongue and Groove Joint Cutters – D140 | d40 | B=25 – 50 mm | HSS Premium
Set of 2 profiled cutters for creating a converging conical tongue and groove joint, designed for 4-sided woodworking machines with a Ø40 mm spindle. The optimal solution for solid wood flooring and countertops where strong lateral tension resistance is required. The groove profile widens towards the front, the tongue fits complementarily, and the board slides horizontally into position and self-locks – it cannot be removed vertically and has no play. The cutter's geometry automatically leaves a 1 mm expansion joint inside the connection, which prevents wood cracking due to humidity and temperature variations. Available in 4 thickness variations for each material.

✨ ADVANTAGES OF THE CONVERGING CONICAL JOINT:
- Self-locking against Lateral Tension: the converging conical profile allows the board to slide horizontally into position and lock – it cannot be removed vertically and has no play, even without adhesive.
- Integrated Expansion Joint (1 mm): the cutter's geometry automatically leaves a 1 mm gap inside the joint for each installed board – prevents wood cracking due to thermal and hygrometric expansion, without any additional intervention from the installer.
- Firm Installation, No Mandatory Adhesive: the conical joint allows for dry installation or with adhesive, with the same degree of fixation – an important advantage for floating floors or countertops that need to move with expansion.
- High Productivity on 4 Sides: the D140 diameter and d40 bore are dimensioned for the industrial speeds and feeds of 4-sided machines, ensuring a consistent finish for series production.
- 4 Thickness Variants: covers the main range of board thicknesses used in production, without the need for additional sets.
- Long-Term Investment: the inserts can be repeatedly resharpened, and if heavily worn, the cutter body can be re-brazed.
⚠️ LIMITATIONS IN USE:
- HSS M2 Variant: ❌ not recommended for particleboard, MDF, HDF, or hard exotic wood – for these materials, choose the T.C.T. Vidia variant.
- Vidia Variant on Softwood: requires constant feed – stopping rotation on coniferous species can cause local burning.
🛠️ SELECTION GUIDE: HSS M2 vs. T.C.T. VIDIA
The choice of material directly affects the finish quality and tool lifespan (swipe left-right on mobile to see the full table):
| Material to be Processed | HSS M2 Premium (6.5% W) |
T.C.T. Vidia ⭐ (Carbide) |
|---|---|---|
| Softwood (Spruce, Fir, Pine) |
⭐ 100% (No Burning) |
❌ Risk of burning (constant feed mandatory) |
| Hardwood (Beech, Oak, Ash) |
80% (Efficient) |
⭐ 100% (Resistant) |
| MDF / Particleboard / HDF / Plywood | Not recommended | ⭐ 100% (Optimal) |
| Blade Hardness | 64 – 66 HRC | 85 – 92 HRC |
| Active Insert Thickness | 6 mm | 3 mm |
💡 Purchase Conclusions:
- Softwood flooring and countertops (spruce, fir, pine)? Choose HSS M2 – immaculate finish, no burning, 6 mm insert with more possible resharpenings.
- Hardwood (oak, beech), particleboard or MDF? Choose T.C.T. Vidia – much more resistant to abrasive wear from dense woods and synthetic binders.
- Caution with Vidia on softwood: requires constant and fast feed – stopping rotation can cause burning on the fibers.
🦺 SAFETY MEASURES IN USE:
- Mandatory protective equipment: safety glasses (flying chips), mask or respirator (fine wood dust), and ear protection for prolonged work.
- Beware of hands and fingers: use guides and feed/push devices when processing boards; do not guide the workpiece manually near the cutter.
- Check the cutter's fastening on the spindle and the complete tightening of the nut before starting.
- Respect the recommended speed (6,000 – 9,000 RPM) to avoid vibrations or damage to the cutting edge.
- Resharpening: we recommend having it done at a specialized center to maintain the exact conical angle of the profile – incorrect resharpening alters convergence and compromises the joint's tightness.
