Panel Cutter – HSS M2 or T.C.T. Vidia | D160 / D200
Profiled cutter for creating panels on a stationary spindle moulder, available in two diameters (160 mm and 200 mm), two material variants (HSS M2 or T.C.T. Vidia) and two working positions (above or below the wood) – all selectable from the menu. Frequently used in the production of solid wood doors, paneled furniture, and decorative wood elements.

🚀 PROPERTIES AND PERFORMANCE:
- Robust and Balanced Body: made of heat-treated steel, the tool body eliminates vibrations, protecting machine bearings and ensuring flat finishes.
- Fine and Precise Cut: regardless of the chosen material, the brazed inserts ensure a consistent cut and a finish directly from milling, ready for stain or lacquer.
- Z4 Configuration: the 4 inserts evenly distribute the cutting force, without material tear-out.
- Long-Term Investment: the inserts can be successively resharpened at a specialized center, and in case of advanced wear, the cutter body can be re-brazed.
- Maximum Flexibility: 2 diameters × 2 materials × 2 working positions — select the exact combination for your machine and project.
💡 How to choose the working position:
– Above the wood – you visually control the profile during milling; recommended for manual work with controlled top feed.
– Below the wood – sawdust and chips are thrown directly downwards; the workpiece finish remains protected while sliding on the milling table.
⚠️ USAGE LIMITATIONS:
- HSS M2 variant: ❌ not recommended for particleboard, MDF, HDF, or very hard exotic wood – the synthetic binder prematurely wears the high-speed steel blade.
- T.C.T. Vidia variant on softwood: requires constant feed – stopping rotation on resinous woods can cause local burns.
🛠️ SELECTION GUIDE: HSS M2 vs. T.C.T. Vidia
The choice of material directly influences the finish quality and tool lifespan (swipe left-right on mobile to see the full table):
| Processed Material | HSS M2 Premium (6.5% W / Р6М5) |
T.C.T. Vidia ⭐ (Metallic Carbides) |
|---|---|---|
| Softwood (Spruce, Fir, Pine) |
⭐ 100% (No Burns) |
❌ Risk of burning (Friction / constant feed mandatory) |
| Hardwood (Beech, Oak, Ash) |
80% (Efficient) |
⭐ 100% (Resistant) |
| Knots in Wood | ✅ Resistant (HSS absorbs shock) |
⚠️ Risk of chipping (carbide is hard but brittle to shock) |
| MDF / Particleboard / HDF / Plywood | Not Recommended | ⭐ 100% (Optimal) |
| Composite & Exotic Materials | Forbidden | ⭐ 100% (Maximum) |
| Active Insert Thickness | 6 mm (Maximum) | 3 mm |
| Blade Hardness | 64 – 66 HRC | 85 – 92 HRC |
💡 Conclusions for purchase:
- Working with Spruce, Fir, or Pine? Choose HSS M2 – guarantees a pristine white finish, free of burn marks.
- Working with Oak, Beech, MDF, or Particleboard? Choose T.C.T. Vidia – resists the abrasive wear of hardwoods and synthetic binders.
- Be careful with Vidia on softwood: requires constant feed – stopping rotation can cause burns on the grain.
🦺 SAFETY MEASURES DURING USE:
- Mandatory protective equipment: safety glasses (against projected chips), mask or respirator filter (fine wood dust), and earmuffs for prolonged work.
- Attention to hands and fingers: always use a feed/push device; do not guide the workpiece manually with hands near the cutter.
- Check cutter orientation before starting the machine – the "Above" variant and the "Below the wood" variant are not interchangeable; incorrect mounting produces an incorrect profile.
- Check the cutter's securement on the spindle and the complete tightening of the nut before starting.
- Adhere to the recommended speed of 6,000 RPM.
