The SolGrat HSS Premium grooving cutter is a high-performance professional tool designed for precision slotting in both softwood and hardwood. Equipped with 6 tips brazed with a special silver alloy, this cutter combines necessary stability with extreme edge hardness, making it the ideal choice for industrial woodworking shops.
SolGrat Z6 Grooving Cutter: Performance and Technical Specifications
-
Edge Material: HSS M2 (High-Quality High-Speed Steel).
-
Special Brazing: Tips secured with Silver (Ag) alloy for vibration absorption and superior metal bonding.
-
Hardness: 62…66 HRC.
-
Maximum Speed: 9000 RPM.
-
Performance: Up to 3,000 linear meters in softwood between sharpening cycles.
-
Number of Teeth: Z6 (6 brazed tips).
A Lifetime Investment: Reusable Body via Re-tipping
Unlike monoblock cutters that become useless after complete wear, the SolGrat HSS Premium model represents a sustainable investment. The brazed-tip construction allows for re-welding (re-tipping) of new HSS or Carbide (Vidia) plates onto the same steel body. This professional maintenance extends the tool's lifespan over many years, significantly reducing long-term acquisition costs.
SolGrat Selection Guide: Variants (Width and Bore)
To meet the specific needs of your machinery, this model is available in a wide range of sizes. Please select your desired variant from the menu below, which lists combinations of Groove Width (4 mm - 12 mm) and Bore/Shaft Diameter (d30 mm, d35 mm, or d40 mm).
-
Selection Example: "8 mm - d30" corresponds to a cutter with an 8 mm width for a 30 mm shaft.
Usage Recommendations for SolGrat Cutters
-
Precision grooving (slotting) in solid wood (soft and hard species) and blockboard.
-
Optimal for use on stationary spindle molders/shapers with manual or mechanical feed.
-
The tooth geometry ensures efficient chip evacuation and a clean, burn-free finish of the groove.
⚠️ Usage Limitations:
-
❌ We do not recommend the HSS version for Chipboard (PAL), MDF, HDF, or extremely hard exotic woods.
-
❌ For composite materials or high-demand applications, please choose our Carbide (Vidia) tipped version.
🛠️ Selection Guide: HSS vs. CARBIDE (Brazed Tools) Choosing the right material depends not only on the hardness of the wood but also on how the edge interacts with the fiber. Our brazed cutters are optimized for stationary machines and CNCs, but their performance varies drastically depending on the processed wood species.
✅ Buyer's Summary:
-
Standard HSS: Exclusively for very soft species (Spruce, Fir, Pine, Lime). Economic, fine edge.
-
HSS M2: The "King" of softwoods. Guarantees pristine white finish without burns. Also works on Oak/Beech for a mirror finish, but wears out faster.
-
Carbide (Vidia/CMS): Mandatory for hardwoods/exotic species (Oak, Beech, Mahogany) and wood derivatives (MDF, Chipboard, Plywood). Lasts thousands of meters without sharpening.
-
⚠️ Note: Carbide requires a constant feed rate. If held stationary while rotating on softwood, burning is guaranteed.
