Set of 2 Tapered Tongue and Groove Router Bits – HSS M2 or T.C.T. Carbide

Set of 2 profiled router bits for creating a tapered tongue and groove joint – the optimal solution for solid wood flooring and countertops where a stronger resistance to lateral traction is required compared to the classic straight joint. The groove profile widens towards the front, the tongue fits into it complementarily, and the board slides horizontally into position and self-locks – it cannot be removed vertically and has no play. The router bit's geometry automatically leaves a 1 mm expansion gap inside the joint, which prevents wood cracking due to variations in humidity and temperature. Available in 4 thickness variants for each material – select the desired variant from the menu.

✨ ADVANTAGES OF THE TAPERED JOINT:

  • Self-locking against Lateral Traction: the tapered profile causes the board to slide horizontally into position and lock – it cannot be removed vertically and has no play, even without adhesive.
  • Integrated Expansion Gap (1 mm): the router bit's geometry automatically leaves a 1 mm gap inside the joint for each board installed – prevents wood cracking due to thermal and hygrometric expansion, without any additional intervention from the installer.
  • Firm Installation, No Mandatory Adhesive: the tapered joint allows for dry or glued installation, with the same degree of fixation – an important advantage for floating floors or countertops that need to be able to move with expansion.
  • High Durability: the joint withstands repeated stress better than a straight joint – suitable for high-traffic areas.
  • 4 Thickness Variants: covers the main range of board thicknesses used in production, without the need for additional sets.
  • Long-Term Investment: the inserts can be successively resharpened, and if extensively worn, the router body can be re-brazed.

⚠️ LIMITATIONS IN USE:

  • HSS M2 variant: ❌ not recommended for particle board, MDF, HDF or hard exotic wood – for these materials, choose the T.C.T. Carbide variant.
  • Carbide variant on soft wood: requires constant feed – stopping rotation on resinous woods can cause localized burning.

💡 Conclusions for purchase:
  1. Softwood flooring and countertops (spruce, fir, pine)? Choose HSS M2 – immaculate finish, no burns, 6 mm insert with more possible resharpenings.
  2. Hardwood (oak, beech), particle board or MDF? Choose T.C.T. Carbide – much better resistance to abrasive wear from dense woods and synthetic binders.
  3. Caution with Carbide on soft wood: requires constant and fast feed – stopping rotation can cause burns on the fiber.

🦺 SAFETY PRECAUTIONS FOR USE:

  • Mandatory protective equipment: safety glasses (projected chips), mask or respirator filter (fine wood dust), and earmuffs for prolonged work.
  • Beware of hands and fingers: use guides and feed/push devices when processing boards; do not manually guide the workpiece near the router bit.
  • Check the fastening of the router bits on the spindle and the full tightening of the nut before starting.
  • Observe the recommended RPM (6,000 – 9,000 RPM) to avoid vibrations or damage to the cutting edge.
  • Resharpening: we recommend having it done at a specialized center to precisely maintain the tapered angle of the profile – incorrect resharpening alters convergence and compromises joint sealing.
